Boho Baby Shower Theme

This past fall, amidst a season of mixed emotions, I had the privilege of organizing a baby shower for my brother Jim and sister-in-law Amanda to welcome our baby niece. This celebration came just weeks after the funeral of my brother David. Transitioning from coordinating a funeral to planning a baby shower in such a short timeframe was a bittersweet journey. Despite our collective heartache over David’s passing, we were united in the belief that he would have wanted us to commemorate this joyful occasion. His anticipation to meet his baby niece was a sentiment we all cherished and sought to honor.

My sister in law really wanted neutral colors for her baby shower, and I couldn’t resist incorporating a hint of soft pink to add a gentle warmth to the neutral backdrop. Thanks to my children and nephew for helping me blow up and put together the balloons, along w/ set up. (If you ever see me using balloons, most likely behind the scenes there is a group of kids that spent all night blowing them up.)

For the backdrop

For the backdrop, simplicity guided my design choices. I utilized spandex covers to create a trio of arches, each varying in size, and selected beige and nude for a subtle, elegant contrast with a set of balloons I purchased from Amazon. Although one pack comes with 167pcs, I always try to be safe and purchase two sets because more balloons is always better than less. I complimented them with some beige and brown pampas grass to enhanced the boho theme. I LOVE personalization and always feel like my events are not complete without it, so I created the “Baby Remedy” sign using vinyl decals to cut on my Cricut Explore Air 2. I then added one of my columns with a pampas grass decor vase to blend in with the pampas grass I used on the arch and added a boho rug and a rattan wicker chair. I really love this backdrop, the only thing I regret every time I look at the photos is the areas where I could have added more balloons!

The centerpieces featured mason jars filled with baby’s breath, elegantly tied with twine, while burlap bags served as party favors, personalized with custom stickers to add a unique touch. The culinary highlight was a two-layer pandan cake with custard and young coconut, courtesy of my favorite bakery, 7 Sweets and Treats. Topped with a ‘baby in bloom’ cake topper and floral accents, it was as delicious as it was visually appealing—leaving no leftovers behind.

A new favorite element of mine was the custom entrance sign. Sourced from Etsy and edited to align with our event’s theme, it was printed on a 20×30 board at Walgreens—a cost-effective yet impactful detail that set the tone from the moment guests arrived.

I’m a little bummed because as you will learn about most of my events, I’m so busy running around the day of coordination, I forget to take photos and then regret it tremendously later. The highlight of the day was having all the kids that attended the baby shower play musical chairs to win a Roblox gift card. They were competitive!

Reflecting on the event, it’s the culmination of planning and seeing the joy it brings to others that I find most rewarding. The role of a planner extends beyond logistics; it’s about creating moments of happiness and bringing visions to life. Celebrating my niece’s arrival in December was a poignant reminder of the cycle of life and the enduring bonds of family. Hosting this event was not just an honor but a heartfelt expression of love and continuity. Thank you Jim & Amanda for allowing me to coordinate and host your event.
